River won on penalties and qualified for the quarter-finals In Belo Horizonte, Marcelo Gallardo’s team defeated Cruzeiro 4-2 on penalties, after a 0-0 draw in 90 minutes, and qualified for the next round of the Libertadores Cup.

Cruzeiro had the first opportunity of the match, after a center pass by Thiago Neves turned into a shot by Pedro Rocha, which was saved by Armani. Then, River answered by approaching the goal, Montiel assisted Borré, but the shot was saved by the rival goalkeeper.

River kept attacking and, after a good play that was culminated by Nacho Fernández, the midfielder fired a shot towards the Brazilian goalpost, but it was blocked.

During the second half, River continued the attack with a failed shot by Carrascal and also one by Lucas Pratto after an assist by Borré. Meanwhile, the home team was not relenting and tried to score by means of a failed header by Leo.

Cruzeiro created few goal opportunities in the second half, the last one being a header from the center of the area by Thiago Neves.

At the end of 90 minutes, the match was decided on penalties. River Plate was 100% effective and was the one to qualify for the quarter-finals. The ones who scored were De La Cruz, Montiel, Martínez Quarta and Borré.
