Taking advantage of the momentum created by the Argentine Cup win, focused on claiming all three points to rank among the top teams, el Millonario stepped onto the playing field ready to corner Barracas Central and, in the first minutes, had a very clear chance at the feet of Lucas Beltran, who struck a shot off a few rebounds following a corner kick, but his shot was blocked over the line.

Then, Juan Quintero surprised Cristian Arce with a corner kick that almost enters the goal. El Millonario kept trying and had a good chance off a combination play between Elias Gomez and Milton Casco. The opposing team tried to threaten Ezequiel Centurion, but it failed to do so. The first goal was scored following an excellent play between De La Cruz and Beltran, with the midfielder scoring a perfect goal. Then, reversing the formula, the forward failed to strike an on-target shot off an assist from the Uruguayan player.

The second half had just begun when De La Cruz passed the ball to Pablo Solari, who failed to comfortably shoot within the box, missing a very clear opportunity. On another overlapping run by the winger and a backward cross, the keeper made a low save. Following a defensive error, Beltran pressed the opposing team, and Solari tapped the ball to Rodrigo Aliendro, who was one-on-one with the keeper, and struck a left-footed shot that smashed against Arce's right post.

Esequiel Barco received a pass on the left-hand side, zigzagged his way to the center and struck a powerful right-footed shot that went high. Halfway through the second half, Bruno Zuculini was sent off after double, but River recovered and wasn't affected by the loss, aside from a few scoring attempts by the away team. In the last play, Miguel Borja set the score at 2-0 with a high right-footed shot (great assist from Matias Suarez).

With this win, el Millonario reached 29 points and sat four points away from the top, with some matches still left to play. On Matchday 18 of the championship, River will play the “Superclasico” against Boca Juniors.
