The beginning was pure adrenaline and River didn’t take long to threaten Boca’s area and that’s how the penalty came: after a rebound by Esteban Andrada, Emmanuel Mas knocked down Rafael Borré and Raphael Claus, the referee, after a late VAR intervention, correctly awarded a penalty to el Millionario: the Colombian player took it and set the score 1-0.

With a one-goal lead, Gallardo’s team went on dominating, while Boca started to reach the box by means of a shot by Emanuel Reynoso from outside and another one by Alexis Mac Allister, which was met with a good response by Franco Armani. Then, Matías Suárez couldn’t get comfortable in the area and in the next play, Borré passed the ball to player no. 7, who tried to shoot, and Andrada responded well.

Borré had a very clear opportunity when he got comfortable after a long pass from Exequiel Palacios, he caught it in the area and fired a right-footed shot, but the rival goalkeeper could control it. Nicolás De La Cruz got close with a free kick and Andrada saved it again, while Boca had a clear chance after a pass from Ramón Ábila to Nicolás Capaldo, but the midfielder missed it in front of the goal.

At the beginning of the second half, el Millionario was even far superior and had many clear opportunities to widen the lead. A very clear opportunity came at Gonzalo Montiel’s right foot, who fired a long center pass and hit Andrada’s right goalpost. Then, in an attacking play, a series of rebounds prevented River from celebrating a second goal.

However, the 2-0 lead came after a great play between Suárez and Nacho Fernández, which culminated in a goal by the midfielder for the result to be even fairer. River’s no. 7 had the third chance, by means of a rebound from outside the box after a pass by De La Cruz, but Andrada stretched out and blocked it. In the last attempt, Nacho Scocco headed a center pass from Casco and the ball snuck just outside the rival’s right goalpost.

Thus, el Millionario claimed an important victory and now will go for the qualification for the final at Boca’s stadium, in the second leg that will take place on October 22nd. Meanwhile, River’s next match will be on Sunday, at the Monumental Stadium, against Patronato for the Superleague.
