River’s first half in Mendoza was fantastic. El Millonario didn’t take long to bring about dangerous situations: the first one consisted in a good play between Agustín Palavecino and Matías Suárez, but Suárez's cross was saved by Nelson Ibáñez. Nonetheless, Rafael Borré managed to score the first goal after taking advantage of a great triangle passing sequence between Palavecino and Suárez.
River went for more and widened its lead thanks to a goal by Suárez, after an assist by Julián Álvarez. Then, Álvarez contributed to the third goal, after firing a failed shot that Borré managed to send into the net.
Julián had his revenge thanks to a fantastic goal, after running up the field from the halfway line and dribbling the rival keeper. River was clearly superior throughout the match: Suárez almost set the score at 5-0 with a right-footed shot that went high above the crossbar; finally, Borré scored once again. The Colombian player took advantage of Alexis Vigo’s good run up the right side of the field and added the third goal to his personal record.
El Millonario was once again the protagonist of the second half. Quickly, Borré scored his fourth goal of the match thanks to a low shot aimed at Ibáñez’s near post. In the following minutes, Suárez and Álvarez had two very clear opportunities to score the seventh goal: Matías’s shot narrowly missed the goalpost and Julian’s shot smashed against the crossbar.
In the last part, the home team got one goal back thanks to a shot from outside the box by Valentín Burgoa. Gallardo’s team kept trying and there was a chance to score the seventh goal at the feet of Jorge Carrascal and Agustín Fontana. River had a good win and added three points to position itself better in the League Cup after the last few matches. River’s next match will be against Racing next Sunday at the Monumental Stadium.
