On a historic day for Vicente López, it was River who took over the match from the very first minute. In the first threatening situation, Nicolás De La Cruz made a warning with a precise free kick: the ball hit Jorge De Olivera's left goalpost. The Uruguayan player set up a good individual play in the next situation and made a long pass to Matías Suárez, no. 7 controlled the ball and fired a cross-shot, setting the score at 1-0.

Jorge Carrascal made a run up the left side and tapped a pass to Julián Álvarez (Rafael Borré’s substitute), but the forward couldn’t fire a shot on goal. In another play, also on the left side, Fabrizio Angileri located Álvarez at the center of the field, but the forward wasn’t in the right position to strike the ball.

With River clearly dominating in that area, Suárez made a pass to Angileri, who reached the end line and fired a cross that Carrascal wasn’t able to head accurately enough. After a warning by Platense on a set piece, Suárez almost scored the second goal by means of a shot from outside the area that deflected off a rival player, finding the home goalkeeper in great form.

The match got tighter in one half of the field, but River didn’t give up and kept pushing for the second goal, without neglecting its defense. El Millonario threatened Platense with a high shot by Carrascal and, later, had a clear chance thanks to a header by Suárez after a good combination play between Agustín Palavecino and Álvarez, but it was blocked by the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, River lost Javier Pinola due to injury, after he injured his arm when landing from a jump. Franco Armani became a hero in two consecutive plays: first, in a one-on-one against Facundo Curuchet and, then, against a header by Luciano Recalde. El Más Grande kept the lead until the end and added its second victory in a row.

River will now face Racing in the Argentine Super Cup, in Santiago del Estero. Then, it will welcome Argentinos Juniors on matchday 4 of the League Cup.
