River began pressing up the field and almost took advantage of a bad clearance by Fabián Assmann: Jorge Carrascal backheeled the ball to Fabrizio Angileri, who was on the left side, and the winger fired a low cross, but the rival defense cleared it. Then, River’s No. 10 had two scoring chances: On the clearest chance, he received the ball and fired a right-footed shot on goal (great assist by Agustín Palavecino), but his shot was weak and Aldosivi’s keeper saved it.

Moving up the field, Julián Álvarez fired a cross and the ball hit Jonathan Schunke's hand. Gonzalo Montiel took the penalty kick and fired a right-footed shot aimed at one of the corners, setting the score at 1-0. Aldosivi pressed on and was close to evening the score thanks to a shot by Leandro Maciel, that smashed against the crossbar, and a shot on goal by Malcom Braida, that was brilliantly saved by Franco Armani.

After some penetrating runs by Rafael Borré and Julián Álvarez, the away team threatened River’s goal again with a free kick that was saved by Armani. Braida scored the equalizer off the corner kick. However, a few seconds before the end, el Millonario took the lead after a great collective play: Carrascal fired a cross to Angileri, but the shot was caught by Borré.

A few minutes into the second half, after a great pass from the newly entered José Paradela, Borré wasn’t able to win the one-on-one against Assmann and lost the chance to score the third goal. River wasn’t attacking much up the field, but it wasn’t having problems in the defense either, and it was controlling the game well. Toward the end, there were more chances to score: Paradela went one-on-one against Assmann, who saved the shot (off a goal kick from Armani), and Matías Suárez made an overlapping pass that didn’t reach Federico Girotti.

Paradela and Suárez set up a good combination play and the midfielder ran toward the box, went one-on-one against the keeper, and skillfully set the score at 3-1. On stoppage time, Suárez controlled a pass from De La Cruz before turning and touching the ball to score the final fourth goal and secure River's qualification. Now, el Millonario must wait until the end of the matchday to know which team will be its rival in the quarterfinals.
