River closed a great week: On Sunday, after a great victory over Argentinos Juniors, which qualified the team for the CONMEBOL Libertadores quarterfinals, River delivered an outstanding performance, beating Union de Santa Fe and grabbing its first three points in the new edition of the Professional Football League.

Union made a dangerous penetrating run toward Franco Armani's goal, but the shot from outside the area was deflected and it went just wide of the left post. In spite of this, River began to win in the midfield and it created many scoring opportunities. The first goal was soon scored, after a collective play between Bruno Zuculini, Nicolas De La Cruz, and Matias Suarez: the backward pass found Braian Romero, who got in the right position and skillfully scored.

Fabrizio Angileri began to make penetrating runs on the left side and fired a good cross to Suarez, but No. 7’s header went high. De La Cruz set up Enzo Perez for a goal by means of a short tap pass, but his right-footed shot was deflected too. On the left side, Angileri received the ball, but his right-footed shot was deflected for a corner kick. In another play involving River’s No. 3, Zuculini won the header and his shot shaved the crossbar. To round off a great first half, Suarez scored a spectacular goal thanks to a right-footed shot into Sebastian Moyano’s left corner.

River kept intensity up throughout the second half and cornered Union, which was trying to counterattack. El Millonario didn’t threaten its rival in the first few minutes, but it then celebrated the third goal thanks to an incredible play that culminated in a beautiful backheel pass from Suarez and a low shot on goal by De La Cruz. In the next play, after another beautiful move, Paulo Diaz fought hard and scored a toe-poke goal, setting the score at 4-0. Thus, Gallardo's team rounded off a perfect evening at home and closed an ideal week.

River’s next commitment will be on Wednesday, at Lanus’s stadium, on Matchday 3 of the tournament. Next weekend, it will play as home team again, welcoming Huracan at the Monumental Stadium.
