After some early moments of pressure from San Lorenzo in River’s half, the Millonario responded with a brilliant team move that ended with a precise right-footed shot from Facundo Colidio, which was expertly saved by Gastón Gómez. On the resulting corner, Manuel Lanzini found Paulo Díaz, who won the header but couldn’t direct it on target. River kept pressing and had another chance, with Lanzini setting up Colidio, but the forward couldn't get a clean shot away.
River continued to push and had a clear chance on the right: a perfect cross from Fabricio Bustos and a strong header from Maxi Meza, but the keeper made another solid save. San Lorenzo’s first opportunity came from a quick counterattack, but Franco Armani made a brilliant save to deny Alexis Cuello’s left-footed low shot.
At the start of the second half, River threatened with a clear chance for Lanzini, who couldn’t control a rebound from Gómez after a cross from the right, before finally taking the 1-0 lead with a spectacular goal from Meza. However, just minutes later, San Lorenzo equalized with a penalty from Iker Muniain. Gallardo’s team kept pushing until the end, but couldn’t secure the well-deserved three points.
