Dominating in the early moments of the match, River had a great chance to take the lead: Manuel Lanzini fought for the ball on the right and assisted Miguel Borja, who fired a right-footed shot that Guido Herrera barely managed to deflect. In the next play, the visitors capitalized on an unfortunate defensive error, and Federico Girotti scored to make it 1-0.

While struggling to create danger again, in the final stretch of the first half River deserved the equalizer: the team had chances with Lanzini, Santiago Simón (a shot from outside the box), a dangerous run by Nacho Fernández, a clear opportunity for Germán Pezzella after a series of rebounds in the box, and a disallowed goal for Borja due to a prior foul on the keeper.

Barely into the second half, Lanzini came close to equalizing with a shot from inside the box that went over the crossbar. In the next play, Borja couldn’t connect accurately with a cross from Marcos Acuña on the left. River dominated and pressed a Talleres team that hardly ventured past the halfway line, creating chances like a free kick from Franco Mastantuono, a right-footed shot from Claudio Echeverri, a strike that hit the crossbar by Nacho Fernández, and a bicycle kick from Pezzella.

Gallardo’s team pushed for a goal right up to the end but couldn’t secure at least a draw that they justly deserved. Now, River will prepare for its upcoming match, scheduled for next Sunday against Platense, away from home, on Matchday 17 of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol.
