River draws with Barcelona on Matchday 2

Marcelo Gallardo’s team drew 0-0 at the Mâs Monumental against the Ecuadorian team. Despite creating several chances—including a penalty—River couldn’t secure a second consecutive win.
Just five minutes into the match, José Contreras gave away a penalty on Sebastián Driussi after charging out to challenge Facundo Colidio. The striker stepped up to take the penalty, but the goalkeeper guessed correctly and made the save. During the first half, River created several chances to take the lead, including a turn-and-shot by Colidio, a one-on-one opportunity for Driussi, and a long-range effort from Kevin Castaño.
In the second half, River dominated but lacked attacking spark, despite chances from Driussi—a powerful right-footed shot saved by the keeper—and a high left-footed shot from Colidio. Defensively, River was rarely troubled, but lacked the final touch in attack to claim all three points after a successful debut in Peru against Universitario.
River’s next match will be this Sunday against Talleres at the Mâs Monumental, as part of the next round of the Torneo Apertura.
