River draws in Junín

This Saturday night, on Matchday 12 of the Torneo Apertura, the “Millonario” drew 1-1 with Sarmiento. Miguel Borja opened the scoring, and although the team had several chances to seal the win, Franco Armani’s sharp saves were crucial throughout the match.
Marcelo Gallardo’s team returned to league action following a victorious CONMEBOL Libertadores debut in Peru against Universitario. With several changes to the starting lineup, River got off to a strong start and created some danger early on, including headers from Leandro González Pirez and Miguel Borja. The Colombian striker broke the deadlock, finishing off a quality cross from Franco Mastantuono down the left.
Just before the break, Sarmiento found the equalizer through Juan Insaurralde. Armani came up big with crucial saves to deny Iván Morales, Leandro Suhr, and Pablo Magnín. River, meanwhile, struggled to capitalize on promising chances from Rodrigo Aliendro, Matías Rojas, and Sebastián Driussi.
On Tuesday, River will host Ecuador’s Barcelona at the Mâs Monumental on Matchday 2 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage.
