River draws in Ecuador and tops the group

Showing real grit and determination, River Plate battled back from a two-goal deficit against Independiente del Valle, leveling the score in the second half thanks to goals from Giuliano Galoppo and Sebastián Driussi, and now sits alone atop the group in the CONMEBOL Libertadores.
Despite dominating the early minutes, Marcelo Gallardo’s team was caught off guard when Claudio Spinelli opened the scoring for the home team, and soon after, the striker made it 2–0. River felt the blow but tried to pull one back before halftime with a shot from Franco Mastantuono that went just wide of the left post.
In the second half, after some dangerous chances from Independiente del Valle, River found a way back as Galoppo slotted home a rebound off a shot by Manuel Lanzini. Six minutes later, following a corner and a shot from Nacho Fernández that hit the crossbar, Driussi tapped in the rebound to secure a crucial equalizer for River, who nearly snatched a late winner.
River now leads Group B with five points and three matchdays to go. The team will now turn its attention to Sunday’s Superclásico against Boca Juniors at the Mâs Monumental, in the Torneo Apertura.
