In the opening minutes, el Millonario had a strong presence on Lanus’s half of the field and threatened its goal with two shots by Nicolas De La Cruz: the first one was off a free kick, but Lucas Acosta was in the right place to save it. Then, from the right side, De La Cruz fired a powerful shot that the keeper saved by his left post. The home team threatened River with a good play set up by Jose Lopez and a backward cross that was cleared by River's defense.

Enzo Perez also fired a shot on goal, but his right-footed shot went just wide of the goal. Lanus had a clear opportunity to score at Jose Sand’s feet, but the forward fired a high shot when he was alone in front of the goal. After many penetrating runs, River had its reward: after a great play by Matias Suarez off a pass from Franco Armani, Bruno Zuculini immediately kicked the ball from outside the box, setting the score at 1-0 thanks to a low shot toward Acosta’s right post.

River didn’t yield control of the game and felt calmer after taking the lead. El Millonario deservedly widened the lead toward the end of the first half after another very good play: Suarez found Zuculini with a long pass, No. 5 controlled the ball within the area, and left it to De La Cruz, who scored the second goal by means of an accurate shot.

At the beginning of the second half, after a threatening shot on goal by Suarez, whose left-footed shot smashed against the near post, Gallardo’s team quickly scored the third goal: Jorge Carrascal made a good move on the right side and fired a long cross, the keeper failed to clear the ball, and De La Cruz took advantage of the rebound to score. River didn’t stop and was very close to scoring the fourth goal, by means of a cross from the Uruguayan player and a deflected diving header by Zuculini.

El Millonario had no troubles, it stood firm and claimed an important victory, adding six points in the local tournament and winning over a rival that had a winning streak of two consecutive victories. On Sunday, River will welcome Huracan at the Monumental Stadium for Matchday 4.
