On Matchday 20 of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol, Marcelo Gallardo’s team won 3-1, with two impressive finishes from Pablo Solari and a goal by Miguel Borja.
River took control of the match from the off, linking up in attack to threaten down the right flank. Early chances included a cross-shot from Pablo Solari and a header from Leandro González Pirez off a corner kick. The opponent’s only dangerous chance in the first half was a clear opportunity for Ezequiel Cañete, which went over the bar.
From then on, it was all River: Fabricio Bustos played the ball to Solari, who set himself up and, with a turn, struck a powerful left-footed shot that Facundo Sanguinetti saved low. Claudio Echeverri was active on the left and nearly gave Gallardo’s team the lead with a dangerous run. Later, after a cross from the right, Facundo Colidio couldn’t direct his header on target. Finally, Solari opened the scoring with a superb shot from the edge of the box.
Early in the second half, River netted the second goal, once again courtesy of Solari: the forward made an individual play and passed the ball to Echeverri, who played it back, allowing Solari to slot it in low. Banfield had an opportunity on the right, but Franco Armani made a solid save on Gerónimo Rivera’s shot.
In the final stretch, Leandro Garate took one back with a penalty after a VAR review, but River remained untroubled and sealed the win with a goal from Miguel Borja. With this win, River now sits at 30 points in the league. On Wednesday, the team will visit Instituto in Córdoba, followed by a home match against Barracas Central on Sunday.
