To prepare this report, Transfermarkt added the sums that clubs collected from selling their players and subtracted what they invested in backups. Thus, el Millonario sits sixth with €325 million; the other Argentine team that appears in the top 15 is Boca Juniors, sitting thirteenth, with €236 million.

Transfermarkt highlights the sale of Javier Pinola to FC Barcelona, in the 2001/2002 season: the forward was transferred for the impressive sum of €35,9 million, after his spectacular performance wearing River's jersey. It also mentions other very important transactions, such as the transfer of Pablo Aimar. More recent transfers include those of Lucas Alario, Exequiel Palacios, Erik Lamela, Sebastian Driussi, and Gonzalo Martinez.

Portugal’s Benfica is at the top of the list, with Porto and the Netherland’s Ajax as runner-ups. The other two teams sitting above River are France's Lille and Italy’s Udinese.
