Important victory: River wins at home At a roaring Mâs Monumental stadium, Marcelo Gallardo’s team beat Independiente 2-0, with two stunning goals from Facundo Colidio.

After a spectacular welcome, with a packed Mâs Monumental stadium as always, River came out pressing high and quickly put Rodrigo Rey’s goal under threat through Facundo Colidio and Sebastián Driussi. Rodrigo Aliendro also joined the attack, while Paulo Díaz had a chance with a header from a free kick that went just wide.
Meanwhile, Independiente tried to hit on the counter but created little danger: the best opportunity fell to Gabriel Ávalos, but the striker couldn’t finish in front of goal. In the second half, Gallardo’s team deservedly took the lead with a well-worked team move, a pinpoint cross from Gonzalo Montiel, and a clinical header from Colidio.
River remained in control, continued creating scoring chances, and stayed solid defensively. Near the end, Colidio produced a moment of brilliance to seal a 2-0 win, securing three crucial points, ending Independiente’s unbeaten run, and climbing into the top spots of the group with eight points. Up next, River will face Godoy Cruz in Mendoza on Wednesday.
