River was a machine in the first half. After the unfortunate injury suffered by Felipe Peña in the beginning, el Millonario was in a good position on the field, with Benjamin Rollheiser and Agustin Palavecino threatening with penetrating runs. Patronato was also hinting at scoring, but then came River’s goals: no. 8 opened the scoring thanks to a great right-footed shot off a recovery header by Enzo Perez.
Julian Alvarez threatened with a shot that was saved by Matias Ibañez, but he eventually scored three goals: first, the youth player collected a rebound from the keeper, after a shot from Enzo Fernandez; then, he pressed Ibañez, stealing the ball from him and scoring; lastly, he collected another rebound off a shot from Palavecino (after a great performance by Milton Casco and Rollheiser).
El Millonario approached the second half in the same way as the first one and it was close to scoring the fifth goal off an overlapping run by Casco on the left side and a cross that reached no teammate in the right position. Jorge Carrascal showcased his ability on the field and, during a play on the left side, almost scored an amazing goal: he dribbled the defense, and his shot went just wide of Ibañez’s left corner.
Before the 75th minute, after a long clearance started by Franco Armani, Carrascal set up Julian and the goal scorer sent his fourth goal into the net, setting the score at 5-0. Thus, the player from Cordoba has scored 15 goals in the championship so far, being the only goal scorer.
Thanks to this win, el Millonario now has 46 points and still sits seven points clear of the runner-up. On the next matchday, Gallardo’s team will visit Platense.
