“After reflecting for a few days, which was hard because I couldn’t shut myself off from the dynamics of everyday life, the decision has to do with something I felt. I had said that I was going to analyze the situation, my contract was about to expire and it was essential to take some time to reflect on it because, let me tell you, after so many years working at a place like this, considering what the Club asks from you and everything you commit yourself to, based on what you feel, I needed the time to think and decide what to do. I choose to stay, and this choice goes beyond what I have lived and felt. I think it’s worth it and that I deserve to continue, at least, one more year,” stated Marcelo Gallardo on Tuesday at River Camp.

The coach added: “I didn’t want to let more time go by, because I had already thought about it, and I needed to announce my decision today and not increase anticipation. What's clear is that I have no words to thank the fans for all the love and support they give me. I can only give it all back by renewing my energy and continuing to lead this sports management process, which is what truly makes me happy. Each display of love has been moving for me.”

“Every day since the match against Racing has been emotional for me. My contract has been extended for one year; I think that's the best thing and it’s what we’re going to agree on, at least initially. I thought it was very logical and heartfelt that the fans could celebrate tomorrow without having to wait for an announcement. Tomorrow, I want people to celebrate in peace, as excited as possible, and for things to take place in the happiest way possible, because each anniversary has to be experienced like that, nothing should cast a shadow over it,” he continued.

Gallardo said: “We’re all just passing through. Some moments depend on you, and others don’t; as long as I have the possibility to choose, I choose to stay and continue to be a part of it. And if I choose this, it’s because that’s how I feel. That's very clear and straightforward, but people are just passing through and institutions remain, that’s what we have to defend. We represent a very prestigious club.”

Finally, he sent a message to the fans: “The only thing I can assure you is that I’m committed to staying and keeping up the work that we’ve been doing. This is very dear to my heart, and I choose to be here. I hope you can celebrate tomorrow.”
