Marcelo Gallardo keeps making history. A few days after winning his twelfth title as River’s coach, he has won a large percentage of the votes for best coach in the Americas, after the results of the survey El País carries out year after year became public. Thus, Gallardo repeated what he had already achieved in 2018 and 2019, and now shares the record with José Pekerman, who was chosen in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Even though River didn’t win any titles in 2020, the team’s performance in Brazil, in the second-leg match against Palmeiras, cannot be forgotten, after it was really close to turning the 0-3 score around and making it to the finals. It was a historic night in which the team proved its character and idea of play to the Americas and the world.

Another River Plate member won second place: Hernán Crespo (champion of the Americas with River in 1996) was crowned champion of the South American Cup coaching Defensa y Justicia, after performing very well throughout the tournament.
