The 2016-2017 season has a new champion: River Plate. Daniel Reyes’ team played the last match first in the score and thrashed Huracán by 6-0 at La Quemita. The victory, after waiting seven years, was crowned with a well-deserved lap of honor.

The relentless Uruguayan goal scorer Carolina Birizamberri scored a goal with a hat-trick, and Lourdes Lezcano also did its own so that the first half would end 4-0. Before that, Florencia Chiribelo shot a penalty that the rival goalkeeper stopped.

During the extra time, Laura Romero scored the fifth goal, and Belén Spening scored the sixth one, with which she signed the victory.

The road of the “Millonarias” towards the glory had 22 matches: 20 victories, one draw and one defeat. Thus, they scored 61 points and overtook Boca by one point.

With this victory, River won its eleventh title in this discipline. The last title was won in 2010 with Diego Guacci as coach and with members of the current team: Andrea López (player), Vanesa Sarrocca (current goalkeeper coach) and Lidia Rivas (current kit woman).

For the celebrations, the players wore t-shirts designed especially for the occasion by Adidas.
