River Plate came out on top in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Barcelona in Guayaquil, securing top spot in the group. Goals were scored by Sebastián Driussi, Facundo Colidio, and Franco Mastantuono.

River’s strong run rolls on. Following the Superclásico win and the rout over Vélez, Marcelo Gallardo’s team delivered another solid performance in the CONMEBOL Libertadores. River asserted its dominance and earned three crucial points to settle into a strong position at the top of the group, now with two wins and two draws.

Sebastián Driussi opened the scoring, bringing down a long ball from Lucas Martínez Quarta and drilling a right-footed shot across goal to make it 1-0. Following the equalizer from the home team, Facundo Colidio replicated Driussi’s goal to make it 2-1 for River. In the second half, River’s third came from a fantastic piece of play by Miguel Borja, who, after receiving a subtle assist from Colidio, set up Franco Mastantuono for the goal.

Barcelona pulled one back shortly after, but River stayed solid and focused, grabbing a big win. The team will now prepare for Monday’s match against Barracas Central at the Mâs Monumental in the Round of 16 of the Torneo Apertura.
