In the initial fifteen minutes, River was in control but found it difficult to threaten the rival goal. So far, River’s only scoring chance had been a shot by Jorge Carrascal which was comfortably saved by Cesar Rigamonti. However, el Millonario later gained momentum: off a good play by no. 10, Benjamin Rollheiser tried from outside the box. Then, the Colombian player struck a left-footed shot that went high.

The clearest chance was at Rollheiser’s feet, who received a pass from Santiago Simon and struck a left-footed shot that went high over Central Cordoba’s goal. Then, the scoring was opened up thanks to a good low shot by Carrascal off an assist by Julian Alvarez who recovered the ball when the home team was clearing it. Toward the end, no. 9 was close to scoring a goal, after a good move and a crossed shot that was blocked by Rigamonti.

At the beginning of the second half, el Millonario pressed and threatened the rival team before the first minute was up, with a right-footed shot by Alvarez from outside the box, which was deflected, preventing Nicolas De La Cruz from catching it by the far post. Central Cordoba responded with a dangerous move by Leonardo Sequeira consisting in a crossed right-footed shot that brushed Franco Armani’s left post. Then, River had two chances in a row: Simon aimed a shot at a corner and Rollheiser failed to strike a cross from Carrascal.

The home team recovered the ball on River’s side and had a great chance to even the score, but Armani came off his line to make a low and quick save on Sequeira’s shot. With Central Cordoba at its best, Gallardo’s team scored the second goal: after a good counterattacking play, Carrascal controlled the ball and fired a cross that bounced off, but Alvarez struck it with this right foot into Rigamonti’s left angle.

River immediately had another clear chance, but Braian Romero’s shot bounced off a rival defender. On the 25th minute, Central Cordoba reduced the deficit thanks to a penalty kick taken by Sequeira. A few minutes later, Armani saved a shot, a low header by Milton Gimenez, which could have evened the score.

On his first time touching the ball, Agustin Palavecino fired a shot from outside the box that went just wide of Rigamonti’s left post. Claudio Riaño had a clear chance to even the score, in a one-on-one with the keeper, but Armani made a great save, and the right post stopped the rebound. In a good penetrating run by el Millonario, Palavecino set up Romero for the third goal, and the forward settled the match.

Thanks to this victory, River now has 27 points and is the sole first runner-up to Talleres, which leads the scoreboard with 29 points. On the next matchday, the team will welcome Boca Juniors at the Monumental Stadium.
