ESRiver, the first club in America with an eSports football team This Friday, October 7, Club Atlético River Plate launched its eSports Division in an event in the Paddock, which counted on the presence of Rodolfo D’Onofrio and players from the professional squad.
In the framework of a global phenomenon that adds millions of followers in the world, River Plate launched River Play, the eSports Division of the Club, and presented the first professional team of virtual football which will defend the colors of the Institution in the world’s major tournaments.
In an event that took place in the Paddock Club of the Monumental Stadium, Rodolfo D’Onofrio (President of River), Gustavo Silikovich (General Manager of River) and Marina Méndez (CEO of RÖMA Agency) explained the scope of this innovative initiative with electronic sports, which also includes a charitable and educational platform unique in the world:“Play to learn.”
With the presence of members of the Managing Board, players of the squad (Rodrigo Mora, Tomás Andrade, Iván Rossi, Denis Rodríguez, Camilo Mayada and Augusto Batalla) and major sports media and those specialized in gaming, the hiring of Franco Colagrossi (distinguished player in the local scene and River Plate fan) was announced. He will be the first professional player of virtual football on the continent who will wear the colors of the Club.
Moreover,the launching of the first River Play Cup was announced: an exclusive tournament for associates and members Somos River, from which the second player to complete the team will emerge. Said competition includes an online qualifying phase and a final phase, which would be played in the Monumental.The registration method will soon be informed.
